Re: District Annual Performance Report (APR)

On November 7, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released Annual Performance Report (APR) data to the public. The APR is the reporting system for the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP), the accountability system under which our Missouri schools operate.

De Soto #73 received 84.6% of the possible points (which is an increase from 75% last year). Most of our points were earned because of continued improvement in the areas of academic achievement (both whole district and for some of our subgroups) and College and Career Readiness indicators.

Points can be earned in five categories:

  1. Academic Achievement - the percent proficient or advanced scores and the MAP Performance Index (MPI) for all MAP assessments by subject area.
  2. Subgroup Achievement - the percent proficient or advanced scores and the MAP Performance Index (MPI) by subject area for students who are included in the super subgroup (Hispanic, Black, FRL, IEP, ELL).
  3. College and Career Readiness (CCR) - the combined percentages of graduates scoring at or above the state standard on the ACT, SAT, COMPASS, or ASVAB, graduates who earned a qualifying score on the AP, IB, or TSA, and graduates who move into post-secondary education, service, or training.
  4. Attendance - the percent of students who meet the state standard of being at school at least 90% of the time.
  5. Graduation - the percent of students who meet graduation standards.

For a more detailed description of this process, as well as descriptions of many of the acronyms used in this report, the MSIP 5 Manual is available on the DESE website. You can also find public data, including building breakdowns, on the Missouri Comprehensive Data System .

Districts use APR data to reflect on curriculum and instruction, as well as to evaluate programs and guide strategic planning. The De Soto #73 School District has identified several opportunities for improvement - including improving student attendance, supporting sub-group achievement across the district, and increasing the number of students taking and scoring well on the ACT - that we will continue to explore more thoroughly.

If you have any questions regarding the APR, feel free to call Doréan Dow at 636-586-1000 or email her at [email protected] . Thank you for your continued support. We are excited about the growth made and look forward to working to continue that trend.

Honored to be a part of it,

Doréan E. Dow
