Message to De Soto Parents/Guardians - January 14, 2016
Announcement
Dear Parents/Guardians,

De Soto High School was placed on a modified lockdown on Thursday, January 14, while the administration and the Desoto Police Department investigated a message left on a restroom wall at the high school.  As always, the safety of our students and staff is paramount.  The initial indication was that there was not a viable threat to students or staff.

However, our primary concern is everyone's safety, therefore, in collaboration with the De Soto Police Department, an additional police presence remained at the high school and the modified lockdown continued until the end of the school day. school reach call was sent out to district parents informing them of the situation as well as the actions being taken.

In initiating even a partial or modified lockdown, it is difficult to control rumors or speculation.  Often, additional concerns or reports are created as a result.  Regardless of that fact, keeping kids, parents, and staff safe remains the primary concern and focus for our administrators and our local police department.  Therefore, any information that arose throughout the day was immediately investigated and unsubstantiated by administration and the De Soto Police Department.

The district will not have school on Friday, January 15 due to a pre-planned professional development day for staff and will also not be in session on Monday, January 18 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We look forward to welcoming students back when classes resume as normal on Tuesday, January 19

Respectfully,

Josh Isaacson
